Three Wise Men: Ancient Gifts for Healing and Renewal
The Young Living blend “Three Wise Men” always reminds me of the Christmas season. Infused with the sacred gifts of Frankincense, Myrrh, and Sandalwood, this blend echoes the journey of the Magi and their profound wisdom. This blend is still as cherished today, as a treasure for the body, mind, and soul as it was in ancient times.
Growing up in South West Germany, in our home, the nativity scene, or Krippe, was lovingly arranged below the Christmas tree. The three wise men, however, wouldn’t take their place until after New Year, symbolizing their journey to Bethlehem.
On January 6th, Drei König (Three Kings Day), a public holiday in Germany, the tradition came to life. Students dressed as the Magi would ring our doorbell, carrying a bright star and singing carols. Known as Sternsingen, this tradition blessed homes and collected donations for charity, bringing the spirit of giving and guidance to the community. They would write “C+M+B” above the door in chalk, a reminder of the Magi’s gifts and blessings.
During the time of the Magi, essential oils like frankincense and myrrh were central to daily life, especially in spiritual and healing contexts. They were used to anoint newborns, offering both physical protection and spiritual blessings. This practice symbolized care, divine favor, and a connection to the sacred. Myrrh was also a practical gift, aiding in the physical care of both mother and child.
The gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh mirror Celtic values of harmony between the material and spiritual realms. Gold represents abundance and strength, frankincense embodies spiritual connection, and myrrh signifies healing and renewal. These symbols remind us of the balance needed for a fulfilled life, much like the Celts sought alignment with the earth and the divine.
For the Celts, this time of year, following the winter solstice, was sacred—a period “between the worlds” when the veil separating the physical and spiritual realms was at its thinnest. It was a time to seek wisdom, reflect on the past, and set intentions for renewal and transformation. Signs from the stars, the elements, and even the oils of the earth were seen as guiding forces for harmony and clarity. The journey of the Magi resonates with these Celtic beliefs, symbolizing the quest for truth and the gifts of divine insight.
These sacred gifts inspired the Three Wise Men essential oil blend, a modern treasure enriched with Frankincense, Myrrh, Sandalwood, Juniper, Cedarwood, and Spruce. Each oil carries unique benefits:
Frankincense fosters spiritual awareness and peace.
Myrrh comforts the soul and supports emotional release.
Sandalwood provides calm and clarity for deeper self-reflection.
Juniper purifies and renews, helping to release negativity.
Black Spruce grounds and strengthens, offering renewal and balance.
As D. Gary Young, founder of Young Living, beautifully said:
"The Three Wise Men essential oil blend contains the three gifts brought to the Christ Child. It’s a very empowering blend to help release negative thoughts and realign with the higher power."
Here are three practical ways to use this sacred blend:
For meditation and prayer: Apply a drop of the blend to your wrists, crown, or chest before meditation to foster spiritual awareness and deeper connection.
For emotional release: Rub a few drops on the soles of your feet to encourage grounding and release emotional blocks.
For home blessing: Diffuse the blend in your home to create a peaceful, uplifting environment and invite divine energy into your space.
Just as the Magi followed the star to Bethlehem, let this blend guide you on your journey of renewal, healing, and divine alignment.
